Scientists produce wireless electricity

The Independent: Plugs and cables could become obsolete after scientists devised a way of recharging electrical devices ranging from laptop computers to lights from a distance.

This is new ??? Have these geniuses ever heard of Nikola Tesla ? While improving on the wheel is a good idea, claiming to have invented it smacks of arrogance and/or ignorance.

This would be the greatest invention of the 21st century - to do away with entangling cables and plugs

Is this really news, or is it simply a case of the MIT media relations department getting over-excited? Inductive power transfer has been around for years, in a wide range of applications. In any case, without vastly higher efficiency, saying "Plugs and cables could become obsolete" is simply hyperbole.
