The strength of the casimir force in a vacuum

Nature: A vacuum may be devoid of matter, but its shape is still important. The strength of the Casimir force caused by quantum fluctuations in the space between surfaces is critically dependent on their nanometre-scale shape.

Comments

This is indeed interesting news.

Studying how the nanometer scale surface shapes of the Casimir Plates or other conducting surface and the determination of the critical dependence of surface shape and the Casimir force shows that we have made progress in the actual manipulation of the zero point fields in a non-trivial manner.
