The study of the Dark Energy is fascinating. So far, researchers usually tend to use words or phrases describing the Dark energy as if it were of just one type.

However, just as there might exist multiple if not several varieties of Cold Dark Matter and/or Hot Dark Matter, perhaps there are multiple varieties of Dark Energy.

It might be the case that the increase in the rate of cosmic expansion is due to the combined effects of the dynamics of a variety of different forms of energy, some or all positive or some positive and some negative energy agents.

The combined effect effects of these would be multiple agents, may form a superposition to produce the results we seem to be observing, but wherein the relative contributory effects of the would be multiple Dark Energy components vary with time and/or space.

Thus, we cannot necessarily rule out a great cosmic rip or one or more new periods of inflation or phase charges, a leveling off to zero of the rate of increase of the universal expansion, a decrease in the rate of expansion, or even the possibility of a big crunch or the eventual collapse of the universe. In the case of the latter, a whole new realm might be born out of the metaphorical ashes of the collapse. Perhaps a universe with entirely different; laws, number and degree of curvature of dimensions of space or space-time, number and types of particles, fields, forces, and fundamental constants, etc.

Either way, further exploration of the Dark Energy Phenomena may have un-foreseen benefits for energy generation back here on Earth and for manned and/or robotic deep space travel missions.
