John McCain on science investment

NASA Watch: "[Republican presidential candidate John McCain] also said he strongly supports missions to Mars and that Florida should continue to play a major role in space exploration. "There's too much invested there. There's infrastructure that's very expensive and very extensive there," he said."

John McCain has been a supporter of the space program in the past, but has been suspiciously silent on the campaign trail.

The quote above is one year old.

He can't be for oil and against global warming, it's either one or the other.I think he's for the troops and the rest be damned.

Technology is important for the nation and for Her survival.

McCain will probably make a call for less troops which will mean more technology in medical/biomedical/aero/space

Which are sciences that we should focus on to get ahead in the world.

Rocket science is not the only science. Although I'm for McCain on most issues, he faces losing the vote of every scientist in the country if he does not reform the current state of affairs in research budgeting. The US is quickly losing it's status as the foremost powerhouse of scientific ventures. I currently know a few well-published PhD's without jobs, which should not happen. We're already willing to move anywhere in the country - we shouldn't have to move to Canada, or England, or Germany (which is indeed happening). Unless I hear something about more funding going to all the sciences, not just NASA and Global warming, Obama is getting my vote. Everybody votes their paycheck.
